Two businessmen have been charged at the Kisii law court with possession of beverages believed to have been smuggled from the neighbouring country.
Dennis Sabas Chacha and Samuel Nyangige Chacha were jointly charged with two counts of being in possession of unaccustomed goods and that of being in possession of excisable goods without authority. The two offences are contrary to the East Africa Community Customs Management Act, 2004 and Excise Duty Act.
Appearing before Resident Magistrate Dorcas Mac’andere, the two were charged for being in possession of 13 bottles of Balimi Extra Larger, 30 bottles of Serengeti Premium Lite, 14 bottles of Pilsner, 25 bottles of Guiness, 25 bottles of Kilimanjaro Premium Lite, 6 bottles of Winhok, 7 bottles of Azam energy drink and 6 bottles of Jambo Jamukaya water all with a customs value of Ksh. 67,000.
The two were found with the goods on 18th March 2021 at a club in Isebania town within Migori County. They denied the charges and were released on a Ksh. 200,000 bond.
In the same court, Joseph Marwa Mwita, Mohamed Hussein Mohammed and Dominic Kisuve Kilonzo were similarly jointly charged with two counts of being in possession and conveying of unaccustomed goods all contrary to the East Africa Community Customs Management Act, 2004. The three accused persons were found in possession of 3 drums each containing 50kg of sodium cyanide on 18th March 2021 in Isebania town also within Migori County. They denied the charges and were released on a bond of Ksh. 100,000.
