Three terror suspects have been arrested in Lagdera, Garissa County while in possession of illegal weapons; eight AK-47 riffles, 2,004 bullets, 8 magazines and 20 litres of petrol.
Lagdera police said that they were on the Baraki-Maalmin Road on their way to pay National Police Reservists when they spotted the three men in a white Toyota Succeed car registration number KCY 953L.
According to police, Abdirizack Mohamed (24), Jimale Abey Mahamud (21) and Nur Ibrahim Alasow (30) behaved suspiciously when they were asked to pull over their vehicle and drove into the bush to avoid police check.
North Eastern Regional Commissioner Nicodemus Ndalana said the investigations are already underway to unmask where the suspects were coming from and their intentions with the weapons.
He assured the citizens that anyone found capable to have facilitated the suspects in any way will be considered a terror suspect and will face the full force of the law regardless of their social status.
“I want to assure the public that no stone will be left unturned. We will conduct proper investigations and we will not spare anybody who will be found culpable,” he said.
Ndalana warned that politicians planning to fund clan or boundary clashes especially during the nearing general elections will not be spared by the law.
Regional police commander Rono Bunei who accompanied the regional commissioner thanked the police and a multi-agency team from nearby security stations in Mogodashe, Afweini, and Maalmini for tracking and arresting the suspects.
