An amorous father has defiled his six year old step daughter and attempted to cover up the heinous crime before it was exposed prompting him to go into hiding.
Irate residents refused an explanation from the mother claiming her daughter had been injured by a nail in a domestic accident.
The child was rushed to Marani sub county hospital before she was transferred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialized medication as area authorities and gender lobbyists condemned the incident.
Julius Ogamba aged 50 from Nyamare village, Kenyoro sub location, Marani sub county who stayed in the Rift valley where he performed menial jobs had come home visiting when he violated his step daughter.
He had married the child’s mother as his second wife following the death of his first spouse.
Marani Deputy County Commissioner David Saruni confirmed the incident and warned the local community against concealing such crimes.
Saruni however remarked the government had made progress in tackling the wave of rape cum defilement in the area.
Area sub county director of education, Simon Lodiangole cited psychological damage, school drop out, poor performance and sexually transmitted diseases as adverse effects on victims of defilement/rape.
Kisii county ‘minister’ in charge of administration, Ednah Kangwana said the two levels of government had put in place structures to address defilement cases including attempts to conceal the crime.
She urged the residents to report the cases to the authorities for investigation and prompt action.
Young women democrats gender lobbyist, Eznah Nyaramba criticized families and elders who intimidated mothers not to report when their children had been defiled.
Ruth Manoti, another gender activist called for fast tracking of gender based violence cases from the area appealing to the society to protect the children during this covid-19 holiday.
