The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has condemned leaders using their positions and influence in public offices to siphon public funds and resources.
Speaking in Garissa, Nordin said it was ‘unfortunate’ that leaders are using their positions to misuse public funds meant to improve the lives of the poor.
“You are making promises you cannot keep. We have greedy political leaders in this country who are grabbing land and misusing funds meant to help the poor,” Noordin said.
“Because you are a leader with influence you want to grab the land of the less privileged. Everywhere you go in Kenya, there are leaders using their influence to undermine their people,” he added.
Haji lamented the alleged misappropriation of Covid-19 funds in the counties and noted that even the holy Quran has put clearly on why it is important to safeguard public funds. He urged the graduates to uphold integrity in their duties.
