Sombre mood engulfed Kimologit village in Kipkelion West sub-county, Kericho County during a burial of a middle aged woman who allegedly committed suicide over lack of school fees for her children.
The woman is said to have cut her life short over stress, which is a reflection of tough times that the country is going through with the prevalence of COVID 19 and the dying economy.
Speaking during the funeral, Dr. Erick Mutai, who is the senior lecturer at Embu University said the taking of her life by the woman is a reminder that there are deep underlying issues in the communities which should be addressed. C
Mutai said parents are undergoing a lot of challenges with others unable to feed their children, leave alone paying the school fees.
He appealed to the national government to go down to the roots on the matter and provide early distribution of bursaries and county funds.
Mutai also advised not to end their lives whenever they face challenges, but instead share the problem with friends, calling on church leaders to exercise active role in counseling iand providing hopes through programmes.
He called on families to come together as one and build strong communication and their children, with fathers being strong for their families to tame cases of suicide out of marital problems.
