A 65 year old watchman was on Tuesday morning found murdered and several shops broken into after a night of burglary in Embu town.
Evantus Njeru was killed by burglars who after breaking into over seven business premises got away with goods of unknown value.
Margaret Gikandi, proprietor of the premises said they have incurred huge loss.
Gikandi said the robbers got away with her beers, pump and other assorted goods from her Florida bar.
She further added that this is the fourth burglary in a short span which has led to huge losses.
Gikandi wondered how the robbers managed to carry out the heinous act of theft and killing during curfew hours when security officers are supposed to be on patrol. She lamented that with this trend they will be forced to close their businesses. She challenged those taking part in the burglary to stop killings adding that they can take what they want to take but leave the watchmen alive.
James Muriithi, a business man condemned the heinous act wondering where the police were when the robbers were breaking into their shops.
Muriithi said they expect during the curfew hours their businesses are safe because security officers are on patrol.
He has called upon the security to fast track the investigation and bring the culprits to book.
Nathan Kariuki who is a business man neighboring the scene of crime said the businesses in Embu are no longer safe because of increased insecurity.
Kariuki said robbers are taking advantage of curfew and absence of police patrol to execute their acts with no fear.
Efforts to get comments from Embu West Sub County police Commander were futile as he kept promising to get back to the media after getting full report.
