99 students, four teachers and a subordinate at Muruku secondary school in Salama Ward, Laikipia County have tested positive for Covid 19.
According to Laikipia West Disease Surveillance leaders Daniel Kahoro the 104 tested positive from a total of 282 samples that were collected from both teachers and students at the institution on Friday last week.
He said that the tests were conducted after a teacher at the institution tested positive of the disease prompting them to test other pupils.
Kahora said that among the 99 students are being quarantined at the institution with the positive students being quarantined at the institution in the next 10 days, while the negative students are also isolated separately at the institution.
He added, “Most of the students at the institution are day scholars but we have ensured that they are being held at the institution to ensure that they also do not interact with the villagers.
Villagers have however allied fears that they might have mingled with the students calling on the government to conduct mass testing at the village.
