BACK TO SCHOOL PARENTS HEADACHE

Parents and guardians have complained of being  hard hit financially as they sent their children back to school amid  raging covid19 pandemic. Those interviewed as they  did shopping for their children, said the prices of required items including  personal effects  had been hiked ,same to school fees. George Rioba singled out  uniforms and stationery as provisions   whose prices had shot up. Suppliers of the items claimed  they had also been compelled  to increase the prices owing to a compromised economy by the  covid19.

Some  parents had to go back  home for non-affordability of the items. Ruth Nyaboke a supplier cum parent admitted parents were going through financial  difficulties  in  procuring  the uniforms. According to Nyaboke the distributors had not paid for what they were supplied with last year and had decided to go for half the quantities this time round.

Walter Omwenga appealed to the ministry of education and school Boards of Management to consider extending the period for parents to settle fees arrears. He further pleaded with the education authorities  not to send home learners for non- fees payment  after deadlines given for the same  had expired.
