RESIDENTS OF LEMEK HOLD DEMONSTRATIONS OVER LAND GRABBING AT NAROK WEST.

Residents of Lemek have held demonstrations over land grabbing at Laila Primary school in Narok West Sub-county. Over Seven acres belonging to Laila primary school have since been converted into a trading center where small scale traders have been conducting business.Area residents who held protests as schools resumed for the first term have since called on the ministry of education cabinet Secretary to intervene and save the public school from losing the piece of land stating that they would like to construct a secondary school. The residents have since blamed Lemek group ranch officials who led in the subdivision of the land accusing them of selling the piece of land to a private developer who rented spaces to traders.

Daniel Dapash who is the BOG chairman said the community will not allow the land to be lost calling on Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha to help the school in protecting the public utility.He said the school population is growing pointing out that the community would like to develop and build a new secondary school for learners in the region as the nearest neighboring school is 17 kilometers away. John Pessi who is a village elder expressed that the land was subdivided 14 years ago stating that 7 out of the 50 acres that was allocated has been grabbed. He said the community has already laid plans to construct a secondary and tertiary institution of learning in the future.

Singa Ole Koro who is a parent at the school urged the ministry of education and the security teams to take action on the individuals who are involved in the grabbing of the public utility.He said the school was allocated 50 acres of land during the subdivision of the Lemek group ranch community land.He said the community will not condone land grabbing. Mara Ward MCA Tipapa Kirokor has since assured the community that the leadership will ensure that the land will be protected from the land grabbers who will be soon arrested and charged.
