KISII COUPLE PERISHES IN INFERNO TRAGEDY

A couple has perished  under unclear circumstances in an inferno tragedy at Itumbe trading center, Sameta sub county. The two, both teachers, were trapped by the fierce fire in their locked house hindering emergency rescue from good Samaritans.

Residents who were interviewed said they heard a commotion at 3am and rushed to the couple’s home only to discover it could not be accessible having been barricaded from inside. The area police, whose station is nearby, and county disaster management team arrived but it was too late.

A shocked KNUT official, Lucy Machuki, condemned the manner in which the couple died and called for thorough investigations to unearth the cause. She paid tribute to the two for the mark they had left in the teaching profession and the community.

Kisii county Police Commander, Francis Kooli, who led his team of officers to investigate and remove the bodies was also saddened by the tragedy. He clarified that the cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately and called for calm pledging further action after the outcome of the investigations.
