Residents of Kenegut in ainamoi sub-county, Kericho County have protested over laxity by police and area chief to weed out illicit brew in the area after a 30 year old man died in the center after consuming alcohol. According to Reuben Bor, Chairman, Kenegut market, they earlier managed to close bars in the area but sale of uncertified alcohol has resurfaced where the sellers move with boxes looking for their customers. He called on the government to act, saying that about three people have died in the area over the brew since the start of the year.
Peter Yegon, area resident said he was drinking with the deceased since Saturday morning only to learn later that he has died. He appealed for the opening of the bars so that they can drink genuine alcohol as at now they are consuming lethal ones as they are buying at the back streets. Bornes Mutai called on interior CS Fred Matiangi and Rift Valley regional coordinator George Natembeya to act, adding that men in the area are no longer siring children due to high consumption of illicit brew.
