Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) Narok Branch officials have opposed calls by the Ministry of Education to mandatory rollout of the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Programme Courses for growth.
Speaking in a press briefing KUPPET Secretary Narok Branch Charles Ng’eno said that the professional teachers who do not want the TBDs are not semi-skilled as alleged by the Chief Executive Teachers Service Commission Nancy Macharia thereby demanding an apology over the description.
Ng’eno questioned why TSC had chosen few Universities and majorly leaving out public ones to carry out the upgrading further taking on Macharia over double standard over the matter promising to go to court should the implementation take off.
The Branch treasurer Sellah Kulo on her part called on a stop from political interference in schools, a trend which she attributed to the current spate of strikes which hinders good results.
The program targets 340,000 nationwide teachers who will be required to renew their practicing certificate every five years regularly at specific institutions.
The 2018 programs are aimed at replacing schemes of service which guide promotions to teachers who will be required to pay 6,000 shillings annually for the five years for training fees.
