Boy 4, killed in Riruta night fire

A 4 year-old boy was on Sunday night killed in a fire incident at Riruta, Nairobi.The fire is said to have started from their house and spread to other areas within the estate.

Police said the fire broke out when the boy was asleep; his parents were not at home at that time.”Efforts to save the situation were futile as he died due to the carbon monoxide gas,” police said.

Separately, several people were left homeless in Mathare and Mukuru slums after a fire that began on Sunday night gutted their homes.

The fire started in one structure and later spread to the other houses,police said.Police have cited illegal electricity connections as the cause of fires in Nairobi slums.

In March, close to 500 families were left homeless in a fire at the area.In the same month, nearly 100 people were left homeless in a similar incident at Mukuru kwa Reuben slum.

In April, several people were left homeless at Mukuru kwa Njenga following a fire that burnt 30 structures.
