Congo basketball team won Mombasa basketball association’s 2021 league after trouncing Mbaraki Pirates with 48 points against 42 points during a match played at Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] Makupa grounds over the weekend.
The new champs beat their rivals in the first match in the best of three series after edging out the league runners up on the first match with 50 points against 31 points.
The second league match of the series saw the new champs lose the first quarter of the match by half basket 12-11 and taking the lead in the second quarter with 09 points against o5 points.
The well attended local league match saw the new champs leading with 20 points against the away team’s 17 points at breather time.
The visiting team under veteran Kefa Otieno with the combination of Robert Hope, Micah Ngaira and Kevin Walucho lost the touch of the match during the second quarter after they lost 16 points against 11 point after the runners up under Ken Maru and Ronald Ngala made use of their three points advantage.
In the last quarter of the match the champs made use of the team’s defense to turn the tables with 17 points against 09 points with a total of 24 teams taking part in the league.
In the women’s teams Makupa sparks lost to Mbaraki Dolphins with 5o points against 31 points during a match played at the same venue in the first series of the best three. Mbaraki Dolphins won with 56 points against 27 points.
During the colorful awarding ceremony Deputy Chair Kenya Basketball Association Ali Hilmy said the Coast Basketball Association has lined up a series of tournaments throughout the year and will resume after a two weeks break as they are currently engaging in local tournaments.
