Parents/guardians in Lugari Sub-County have been urged to allow their children to open schools on Monday since the academic calendar has limited time.
The Sub-County Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association Chairman Tobias Omusale while speaking in Lumakanda today said some parents will want to prolong children’s stay at home by involving them in shamba work, a situation he described as detrimental to their learning.
Omusale who termed the year academic calendar starting on Monday next week as one of the shortest and called on the parents to cooperate with teachers by sending them early to school for speedy syllabus cover “I know the rains are here and you want them to assist you in planting and weeding but please let them report to their school on fixed dates because there is limited time for them,” Omusale told parents during a funeral function in Lumakanda village.
Kepsha chair however faulted parents who have completely ignored investing in their children’s education. He said education is the only hope for children as it will unlock different avenues in their lives
“We don’t have anything valuable other than investing in these children,” he said.
Omusale was convinced that teachers were aware of short academic calendar dates and that they would open schools on Mondays.
He also asked the residents to elect leaders who are willing to invest in education because it forms the basis of development.
“It is a political season so let us elect leaders who value education,”
The Sub-County Kephsa chair was speaking during the burial of two children who drowned in a borehole last week within their compound.
Inconsolable bereaved parents Henry Musoma and Enrica said their late boys 9 and 12 years were precious and irreplaceable.
