Second phase of CBC classrooms on course

Construction of the second phase of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms in Mwala is on course, sub county Director of Education Stephen Kitungu has said.

Kitungu said out of the 17 classrooms allocated in ten schools two are already complete at Maweli Secondary School awaiting commissioning while eight others are at the roofing stage.

“Six other classrooms are at walling stage while one is at the foundation level. We expect the contractors to fast track the construction, “he said.

Speaking today during the sub county CBC technical committee meeting at the deputy county commissioner’s board room the director of education said the second phase of the construction was progressing well and expressed his optimism that the classrooms will be completed on time.

Kitungu called on school management to collaborate with the contractors to ensure that the classrooms are erected according to the required standards.

“We are asking the principals and the Board of Management to support the contractors and ensure that the classes are done as per the stipulated guidelines,” he added.

The classrooms will be constructed at a cost of Sh788,200 each.

In the first phase the sub county was allocated 45 classrooms bringing to 62 the total number of classrooms to be constructed under the CBC Infrastructure Programme at a total cost of Sh48.9 million.
