Kenyans Cry to Uhuru Over Families Stranded in South Sudan

Hundreds of Kenyans stuck in South Sudan are now appealing to the Government to evacuate them following the break out of fresh skirmishes.

The Kenyan citizens in Juba have turned to social media to highlight the current situation, begging the Kenyan authorities for help.

Kins of those who are in South Sudan have questioned the Government on its plan to move them out of the war-torn nation.

Last week, fightings flared up in Juba between soldiers loyal to President Salva Kiir and Riek Machar, the former rebel leader who became Vice President after a deal that sort to end a two-year civil war.

Following the fighting, more than 270 people are reported dead with thousands being displaced in the world’s newest country that was set to mark five years of independence on July 9.

By Tuesday, a number of foreign embassies had already evacuated their nationals from the country.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed stated that Kenya had taken its efforts a notch higher to ensure the safety of her citizens in South Sudan.

Ms Mohammed confirmed that the Ministry was working to ensure that the airport and humanitarian corridors were open to provide access.

On Monday, President Kiir and his rival vice president Machar demanded an immediate end to the fighting between their soldiers which threatens to throw the young nation back into civil war.

“President Salva Kiir is determined to carry on his partnership with Riek Machar. All the commanders of (Kiir’s) forces are directed to cease any hostility and abide by the order and control their forces,” Presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny stated.
