Golf-Mombasa Hackers Golf Tournament

Evans Murumba beat a team of 220 Golfers to claim the Hackers title during the 4th Annual Hackers Golf Tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa County.

Playing off handicap 28 Murumba returned a score of 35 points to emerge the Ultimate Hacker in the day long 18 holes stable ford tournament organized by the Hackers Union and staged after a two years absence following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The tournament was jointly sponsored by Hop, Capital Power, Cheers, Contech, Jonnie Walker, Millios Pizza, Tudor Health Care, SEAgas, RentCo, Lucozade, and Pro Gas among others.

Immediate Mombasa Golf Captain Lawrence Odhiambo playing off handicap 13 was the first Hacker winner on a two way count back score of 34 points.

This is after tying on the same points with runners up placed handicap 4 Allan Dainty and handicap 18 Saj Shah who was third. Allan Dainty also walked away with the best Gross prize after amassing a six over par 77 gross.

The event’s overall winner was handicap 21 kailesh Chauhan on 39 points beating handicap 23 Sam Muraya to the men’s winner slot by a single point while handicap 11 Fahmy Hamid on 37 points and handicap 22 Nilesh Patel were the runners up and third placed respectively.

Susan Stokes playing off handicap 9 bagged the lady’s title on 35 points while handicap 33 Rose Kinyanjui returned a score of 34 points to carry home the runners up prize and handicap 24 Mary Kinaro was third on 32 points.

Coast Senior golfer Johnson Wamunyua playing off handicap 16 won the Senior prize after carding 34 points while School handicap 27 Ethan Kinuthia on 32 points and handicap 13 Rasmeet Kaur with 32 points were the best boy and girl respectively.

The Sponsor winner’s prize was won by handicap 13 Jamleck Kamau who had a score of 26 points.

The High handicappers prize for men on 39 points was won by handicap 41 Rishi Dodhia and the same Lady was claimed by handicap 48 Lynette Akeck on 38 points.

Hackers Chairman Tony Wanyama thanked the Golfers for turning up in large numbers and Sponsors for supporting the event in a big way and promised that next year’s tourney will be bigger.

He pointed out that the event started six years ago to cater for golfers around the Country who cannot make it to the Kenya Open.

He said Golf is a mental game played under all conditions and we also aim to promote to a higher level,

Director General of Vision 2030 Kenneth Mwige defended the sports being a game changer in terms of promoting tourism in the coastal region.

He said he is optimistic the standard has been set at the end of the one day tournament.The move is a drive to popularize the golf sports in the country,’ he pointed out.
