Kisii county government has secured drugs and equipment distribution worth worth millions of shillings to grassroots health facilities.
The move followed an initiative by the governor Simba Arati aimed at ensuring more accountability to the medicines , supplies and equipment.
Arati was presiding over release of the consignment worth ksh. 27m from Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The Governor disclosed the county government had engaged ICT experts to install CCTV cameras at health facility to curb theft of the items.
According to him the system will instill accountability including any medicines received. Patients will be served on the basis of records of prescriptions by the medics.
The drugs movement will be monitored up to the ward level.
Richard Onyonka, kisii county senator said it will be easier to monitor the items whose flawed distribution has been a major concern to patients The county government is likely to know the drugs that had expired from the stock for procurement on the same.
Chief pharmacist, Cheryuoit Kimutahi confirmed recipient of the consignment.
