A Mombasa court has ordered for the exhumation of the body of a British tourist who died under unclear circumstances while receiving spiritual healing while on vacation
Ms Lutfunisa Khandwalla 44yrs old and a British Citizen met her untimely death when she visited the country in 2020.
She died on August 2, and was buried the following day at Memon Cemetery.
She met her death while visiting her husband’s relatives in Mombasa, where it is alleged the devil killed her as a spiritual leader tried to help her.
Her travel back to the UK was delayed following the lock down ordered by the Kenyan government to contain the spread of the covid-19.
Senior Resident Magistrate Ritah Orora ordered for the exhumation after the deceased’s family moved to the court citing foul play.
“Since the application is not opposed, it is hereby ordered that Khandwalla’s body be exhumed for post mortem and extraction of samples toxicology and DNA to ascertain the cause of death,” said the magistrate.
The magistrate has ordered the Officer Commanding Central Police station (OCS) to provide security during exhumation.
The court has also issued an order requiring officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to be present at the grave site during exhumation.
The family has also been allowed to engage a private pathologist to represent it during the exhumation and post mortem exercise.
The deceased brother Imran Admani made the application through his advocate Jacinta Wekesa.
