Garissa executives sworn in

Garissa governor Nathif Jama on Thursday fired a warning shot to newly sworn in County executive members saying that they must deliver in their respective dockets failure to which they will be shown the door.

The function was presided by Garissa Chief Magistrate Hezron Nyaberi. The county assembly approved the nominations of the officers after a thorough vetting exercise.

Speaking at the county headquarters after overseeing the swearing in of ten CeCs ,Jama said that he will not entertain laziness, incompetence and corruption in his administration.

Jama who won by a landslide through the ODM party defeating former governor Ali korane of Jubilee said he can ill afford to betray residents of Garissa who overwhelmingly voted for him.

He said the surest way of earning public trust is when the team works and attends to the needs of residents without favor.

“Your job is cut out. You know what is required of you at all time. The oath of office that you have taken today is very clear and I hope you will abide by it. Remain professional and adhere to set standards,” the county chief said.

He added: “Bottom line is all county employees from the senior most to the lowest must focus on serving residents to ensure benefits reach the grassroots. people should do their work without somebody necessarily monitoring or pushing them. Remember When you fail to deliver on the ground, you are failing me.”.

He said he will not hesitate to make changes where I feel that wananchi are not getting the best services.

Jama who said that top on the priority of the executive was to tackle the biting drought said all efforts and resources were being channeled towards addressing the situation that he said has led to pastoralists incurring huge loses and threatening the lives of human beings.

Among those who attended the ceremony was county commissioner Boaz Cherutich, assembly speaker Abdi Idle Gure who said they will work closely with the executive to ensure that services get to the people.

He said he was keen to deliver on the promises he made to the electorate and warned he would not hesitate to “crack the whip if need be on those out to sabotage his administration”.

The governor stressed the importance of employees giving value for the money earned as salaries and allowances.

Deputy governor Abdi Dagane emphasized the socioeconomic empowerment that the Jama led administration will undertake in-order to improve the living standards of the vulnerable community in Garissa county.

“Every officer will be held responsible for his/her misconduct and you should be accountable for all the activities within your doc ate, it is a new order and a new way of doing things,” Said Dagane who served in the same position in the former regime.

Those sworn in were Hassan Abdirizak – Agriculture, Livestock & Pastoral Economy, Abass Ismail – Finance and Economic Planning, Ahmed Mohamed – Water, Environment & Natural Resources, Zahra Musa – County Affairs, Public Service & Intergovernmental Relations and Ebla Minhaj – Education, Information & ICT.

Others who took the oath of office were Ahmednadhir Omar – Health, Hawa Abdi – Culture, Gender, Youth & Sports, Mohamed Suleiman – Trade, Investments & Enterprise Development, Masir Mohamed – Roads, Transport & Public Works and Mohamed Hussein – Lands, Physical Planning & Urban Development.

Mohamud Hassan Mursal has also assumed office as the County Secretary.
