Migori Governor Dr. Ochillo Ayacko has issued a warning to county employees who hold offices without proper academic qualifications that they will be axed.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony for six new County Executive Committee Members (CECM), Ayacko said there are several unqualified personnel inherited from the previous regime who are on the payroll.
The governor said his government will not condone such illegalities in the county workforce and asked those affected to quit voluntarily before the law catches up with them.
“Most of our youth need jobs but they cannot get them because unqualified people are holding those jobs. Let them leave before they are caught and allow qualified individuals to take up those responsibilities,” Ayacko said.
The Governor directed the new County Executive for Public Service Caleb Opondi to overhaul all county offices with a view to setting up a clean register of county employees.
“The minister in charge of workers is hereby given powers to work for the people of Migori and we know there are so many people in office who do not have relevant qualifications, please ensure they are removed from office,” Ayacko stated.
He also directed the new CECM for Health Julius Awuor to act swiftly in ensuring that all sub-county hospitals are fully equipped with drugs, medical kits and a constant supply of water.
The governor decried the poor revenue collection saying there has been a tendency by revenue officials of failing to remit revenue to the county after collection. He said he has been frustrated in his desire to address the problem immediately since the Finance docket was vacant.
“Migori people are paying taxes but it ends up in individual people’s pockets instead of the county coffers and that’s why the county does not have enough funds to run its operations smoothly. To our new Finance minister, get to work and streamline those offices,” said Ayacko.
Ayacko told the county executives they will no longer have an excuse to render service delivery since funds will be available to meet demands following the passing of a supplementary budget by the County Assembly.
Those installed in office included CECM for Finance Mr Maurice Otunga Nyanjagah, Dr Mogesi Betty Samburu as the executive for Education, Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Services and Mr Lucas Mosenda Chacha for Agriculture, Livestock, Veterinary Services, Fisheries and Cooperative Development.
Others were Mr Julius Nyerere Awuor as CEC for Health, Ms Rahab Robi Chacha, CECM for Environment, Natural Resources and Disaster Management and Mr Caleb Odour Opondi for Public Service Management and Devolution.
The New CECMs received an order from the county boss to kick-start their duties of revamping dwindling county services.
