Interior CS Prof. Kithure Kindiki has announced measures to modernize all prison facilities in the country.
Speaking in Mwea Prison in Kirinyaga County, Kindiki said they have set aside Ksh 1 billion towards the purchase of new workshop equipment to meet the current technology.
He said inmates undergoing training are using old and outdated machines. He further said they are plans to have each inmate get individual mattresses, blankets, and two pairs of prison uniforms.
During the visiting representative of inmates presented a memorandum to CS requesting the establishment of paralegal service and provision of food during the court session.
The inmate noted that when the case is withdrawn it takes a long to be released, where CS said they will talk to ODDP and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that such is implemented within weeks if not days.
The mates also requested for the courses offered within the prison to be aligned with CBC. He also asked for fast-tracking of cases and affordable cash bails where CS agreed to ask the Chief justice for the procedure.
