Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton have both linked with moves for the player, Georginio Wijnaldum, after he finished the season as Newcastle’s top-scorer.
Georginio Wijnaldum is 25 years old, born at Rotterdam, Netherlands and is a Newcastle Player. Before joining the club, he previously played for PSV Eindhoven and Feyernoord.
The Newcastle Midfielder has made 30appearances and scored 6 goals for his national team Netherlands.
With many players having mushroomed from tender footballers, Wijnaldum never really played football as child.
He grew up with his grandmother in Rotterdam after his parents separated and he was more interested in becoming a gymnast.
One day after attending Sparta Rotterdam’s open trials to keep a friend company, he began to fall in love with football.
All of Holland’s biggest clubs wanted him as a youngster but having not watched much football on TV, he was not drawn by the bright lights of Ajax or PSV.
Eventually he was lured away by Feyenoord and four years later ended up at the club he had previously rejected PSV.
The right-footed midfielder has been deployed on the left-hand side for Newcastle and scored 13 goals in his first season.
He features alongside some stellar names for the Netherlands but plays an important role in midfield, doing the simple things and knowing his own strengths.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez praised him saying “He is so good, he can play everywhere and do well.
“And even then I was talking to him about when he was playing against Costa Rica in the World Cup in Brazil, in a deeper position, and he can play there too because he is so good.
“On saying that, he is so good up front because he can create and score goals.
“I think that his best position is behind the striker but we need quality now out on the pitch, so he can help in any position.”
