Transparency International has withdrawn its 2019 Leadership and Integrity Award given to Noordin Haji when he was Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). This is due to the withdrawal of high-profile corruption cases by his office over the years.
Through a letter, TI said, “Regrettably, we have received public petitions and conducted an assessment based on concerns raised by the public and our partners championing integrity in Kenya.
These petitions have raised serious allegations regarding the withdrawal of high-profile corruption cases, including those for which you were previously recognized, resulting in the loss of public funds.
In light of these concerns and after careful consideration, Transparency International Kenya has made the decision to withdraw the Leadership Integrity Award (State/Public Officer) conferred upon you in 2019, based on our firm belief that maintaining the highest standards of integrity is crucial for all recipients of our awards”, the letter read in part.
Additionally, the organization provided evidence as they asked him to return the certificate and plaque received in 2019.
Meanwhile, Mr. Haji is getting prepped to appear before Parliament after President Ruto nominated him for the position of Director General of the National Intelligence Service.
