The national women’s football team, Harambee Starlets is set to take on Botswana ahead of
their first leg clash against Botswana in the women’s Africa Cup of nation qualifiers set for
Wednesday, November 29th at Nyayo National Stadium.
Starlets faced a stunning test against visiting team in the last round of WAFCON qualifiers but the team
is in high spirit and optimistic of a positive display.
Harambee starlets tactician Beldine Odemba believes that the team has what it takes to qualify
for the 2024 women’s Africa Cup of nation that will be held in Morocco and called on fans to turn
up in large numbers.
“I urge our fans to come out in full support, we truly need you, and I believe you will not let us
down,” she said.
Starlets underedged out Cameroon 4-3 on post-match penalties to book a slot in the final
round of qualifiers and the team will be hoping to capitalize on their home advantage for a
positive show.
Former Vihiga Queens captain Mercyline Wayodi and FK Apolonia Fier’s Lorna Nyarinda,
France-based players Lilian Awour and Marjolen Nekesa will be making a comeback in a 29-man
squad.
Harambee starlets will however be without the services of Beijing Beikong forward Jentrix
Shikangwa, who is nursing an injury sustained while training with the team.
The return leg will be played on December 5th in Gaborone with the winner of both ties earning
an automatic qualification ticket for a slot in the continental showpiece set to be hosted in
Morocco next year.
