Rudisha Named International Ambassador For WIC 2024

Athletics legend David Rudisha was yesterday announced as the World Athletics ambassador for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24.

The World Athletics Indoor Championships will be taking place from 1st to 3rd March. Rudisha racks notable achievements under his belt. He broke the world record for the 800m race in Berlin in 2010 and went ahead to shatter the glass ceiling by breaking his record in the 2012 London Olympic Games, making him a two-time world champion.

Rudisha is no stranger to Glasgow, as he competed in the 2014 Commonwealth Games where he bagged silver. After the announcement, the brand-new ambassador stated that he was honored to be appointed and was looking forward to working with athletes looking to make a mark in the sport.

Reminiscing about his first time in Glasgow, the athlete said, “The 2014 Commonwealth Games was very special, I have beautiful memories of my experience in the city. The people were very kind and supportive cheering in the stadium and it made me feel very special.”

As a double Olympic champion in the No.1 Olympic sport, Rudisha knows just how important it is for athletes to get off to a strong start this year ahead of the Paris 2024 Games.

He went on to wish all the participating athletes the very best and urged them to make a name for themselves in the sport.

Rudisha will be particularly focused on one specific event. “Certainly, the 800m is my preferred race,” he expressed. “I’m also eager to witness the 400m, considering the impressive times they have been posting.”
