Several Moi University students have been slightly injured after they were involved in a road accident at Kimende along the Nakuru Nairobi highway early on Wednesday morning.
According to a statement released by the university, the Kiswahili department students were en route to Mombasa on an academic trip when the incident occurred,
“At approximately 9:50 a.m. this morning, our University Bus KCK 583U, carrying 65 students from the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Kiswahili, was involved in a non-fatal traffic accident at Kimende area on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway during an academic trip,” stated the Vice-Chancellor in a statement.
Fortunately, according to the vice chancellor Prof. Issac Kosgey, no fatalities were reported and the students are expected back to the campus.
“I am relieved to inform you that there were no casualties or fatalities and all students are safe. A bus has been dispatched to bring them back to the Main campus”
Following this, the university has since suspended all academic trips until after the Easter holidays
“As a precautionary measure, all academic trips have been suspended until after the Easter Holidays.” said the university.
This comes barely two weeks after a Kenyatta University bus was involved in a tragic accident in the Maungu area, Taita Taveta County while also heading to Mombasa.
