National Police Officers in Mombasa on Saturday recovered Kshs 1,327,300 in cash and Heroin estimated at Kshs 507,540 in a massive drug raid.
After a collaborative intelligence operation on Friday night involving the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anti-Narcotics units and their counterparts in the coastal region, Salim Kilanga Mwinyi was apprehended.
The suspect was arrested at his home in Magongo, Kisauni Sub-county. In addition to the money and 169.18 grams of heroin recovered at the scene, the detectives were able to retrieve four mobile phones.
Investigations are currently underway by the DCI, Moi International Airport Mombasa.
Mwinyi’s arrest comes barely a week after anti-narcotics Hawkshaws disrupted a drug-trafficking cartel’s shipment of marijuana disguised as animal feeds.
The bales of marijuana were intercepted at Subukia while en route to Nakuru after a tip-off to the police regarding a suspicious vehicle.
In the operation, 45 bales of Marijuana weighing 138kg were found parked separately in a KBX 684H Nissan Vanette and KBZ 861H Toyota Crown Royal Saloon.
Following a thorough search, detectives discovered nine bales concealed under hay sacks. 32-year-old driver Evans Oluoch Rogo guided detectives to his two accomplices, who were found relaxing at QUALIT Hotel in Nakuru city.
Both accomplices, Ali Abdikadir Ali, aged 30, and Ortofa Dida, aged 28, were also apprehended, and 36 bales of the green herb, totaling 79kg, were confiscated from their sedan.
The matter was forwarded to the Rift Valley Regional Headquarters in Nakuru, where legal proceedings were initiated.
DCI and the National Police Service have expressed their gratitude to the public for collaborating with them in the fight against narcotics.
