General Ogolla’s Memorial Service Postponed Indefinitely

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has announced the postponement of the late General Ogolla’s Memorial service that was scheduled for Friday 26th April 2024.

In a statement issued via their X page, KDF noted that the decision was based on the overwhelming support as well as the state burial.

“Following the overwhelming support and state burial of General Francis Ogolla, the Memorial service scheduled for Friday 26 April 2024 at the Ulinzi Sports Complex Langata is now POSTPONED. A memorial service will be announced at a later date,” read the statement in part.

The Kenya Defence Forces together with the family of the late General extended their gratitude to the state and the nation at large for the overwhelming support accorded during the mourning period.

“The Kenya Defence Forces together with the family of General Francis Omondi Ogolla, Mrs. Aileen Kathambi Ogolla, Ms. Lorna Achieng’ Omondi, Mr. Joel Rabuku Omondi Ogolla, and Mrs. Muthoni Rabuku, thank everyone who mourned the passing of General Francis Omondi Ogolla,”

“To all who sent messages of condolences, those who were present and participated in diverse ways from Thursday 18 April 2024 following the news of his passing, those present during the fellowship services at the CDF’s home, the Military Honours Memorial Service, and the Burial Service at General Ogolla’s home in Siaya County on Sunday 21 April 2024, do accept our message of gratitude, recognition, and appreciation,” Read the statement.

The Chief of the Defence Forces was buried on Sunday 21, April 2024, in his home in Ng’iya village, Alego Usonga Sub-County, Siaya County.

His burial followed a military honors ceremony held on Saturday, April 21st, 2024, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, Nairobi County.

A church service in honor of the fallen general was conducted followed by a military parade that concluded with a 19-gun salute.

The KDF has since urged the nation to continue praying for the families of the General and the nine other officers who died with him.

“Whereas the three-day national period of mourning has come to a close and we re-engage in life without General Francis Ogolla, collectively may we continue to pray for the family of General Ogolla and all our fallen Comrades following the helicopter crash.” concluded the statement.
