Moi University has been struck by tension and shock after a section of its students were reportedly infected with an uncommon disease.Six students have been admitted at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret with Hepatitis E which is a rare strain of the disease.According to the specialist, the students had exhibited symptoms of malaria and were treated, but their illness persisted forcing them to seek further treatment.
The medical officer reported that 6 students were later diagnosed with Hepatitis and confirmed that they were receiving treatment. Further measures were put in place to provide medical assistance to the learners and prevent the disease from spreading.
In the last few weeks, the country has seen re-emergence of some unfamiliar diseases with the government issuing alerts.Recently, Mombasa County was faced with a different strain of the disease after close to 100 people tested positive for Hepatitis A which is a liver infection spread through contaminated food and water.
In March, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the country had recorded the first case of Yellow fever after a man who had arrived from Angola succumbed to the illness.
More than 30 children were killed in Nakuru County by a disease that health officials later diagnosed as Influenza prompting the Ministry to issue a countrywide alert.
