Kenya Railways Suspends Commuter Train Services

The Kenya Railways has released an official announcement suspending all commuter train services in response to the ongoing heavy rains in the city, which have affected the rail lines.

“We wish to notify members of the public that commuter train services have been temporarily suspended due to ongoing heavy rains that have affected the rail lines,” read the notice.

According to Kenya Railways, the suspension was deemed necessary to guarantee the safety of customers.

“We are compelled to take these precautionary measures because the safety of our customers is always of paramount importance to us.”

Kenya Railways stated that they will provide updates on the resumption of regular services.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has also issued an advisory to motorists in flood-stricken areas around Nairobi.

“KeNHA advises motorists of a significant traffic disruption resulting from ongoing rains. Athi River flooded early this morning and the bridge linking Kitengela to Mombasa Road along Namanga Road is impassible,” said KeNHA.

Drivers were advised against attempting to cross the bridge until water levels returned to safe levels. Those utilizing the bridge connecting Kitengela to Mombasa Road via Namanga Road were encouraged to seek alternative routes to prevent potential disasters.

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority has temporarily shut down four roads due to floods including Aerodrome Road, Kapenguria Road UN Avenue – Runda, and Kasarani Mwiki Road at Mwiki Bridge

The Kenya Meteorological Department has stated that the rains will continue over the next several days in various parts of the country, and Nairobi Metropolis should expect moderate to heavy rainfall, with the possibility of very heavy downpours in several locations throughout the city.
