The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced a new, streamlined procedure for replacing lost academic certificates, aiming to simplify and expedite the process for affected individuals.

Under the new system, applicants will need to follow a series of straightforward steps to apply for a replacement certificate.

These steps include completing an application form, presenting valid identification and providing detailed information about the lost certificate.

Additionally, applicants will be required to pay a processing fee to facilitate the issuance of the replacement document.

The process includes:

  • Register an account at their website
  • Log in with the credentials sent to an individual’s email
  • Select the lost certificate option from the menu
  • Fill in the index number, type of exam and year then click find. The following documents should be attached:
  • Copy of the lost certificate/result slip(mandatory)
  • Both sides of your ID
  • Passport size photo
  • Police abstract
  • Confirmation from the registrar of person: available at NSSF Building 7th floor, Upper Hill Nairobi
  • Submit the application
  • Wait for verification of the application
  • An individual will receive an SMS notification to log in and make payment
  • Pay 5,220 and wait for the application to be processed
  • Keep checking on the system to know the status of the application
  • Once the process is complete, an individual receives an SMS notification to collect the certification letter from the KNEC offices.

The updated process comes in response to numerous complaints from the public about the lengthy and cumbersome previous system.

Applicants can now access the application form on the KNEC website or obtain it from KNEC offices across the country.

The form requires detailed information about the applicant and the lost certificate, including the examination year, index number and type of examination.

This information is crucial for KNEC to verify records and issue an accurate replacement.

Once the form is completed and submitted, along with the required identification documents and processing fee, KNEC will process the application.
