Major Drug Bust: Suspected Trafficker Nabbed with 327kg of Bhang in Voi

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Voi have arrested a 45-year-old man suspected of transporting a large consignment of bhang.

The suspect was intercepted with 327 kilograms of the illegal substance concealed in his Toyota Prado while travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa.

The arrest was as a result of a coordinated operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Police Service (KPS).

“Acting on a tip-off, DCI and KPS officers erected a roadblock at Ikanga area of Voi, flagging down the 45-year-old driver while on frantic efforts to turn about and escape,” stated DCI.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed the substantial haul of bhang, which was hidden in 11 gunny bags and supplemented by 963 large rolls of the same substance. The officers at the scene noted that the contraband was meticulously packed to avoid detection.

“Upon search, 11 gunny bags containing bhang and 963 big rolls of the same unholy herb were found, alongside two extra sets of number plates (KCU 888F & KCV 489R),” noted DCI officers.

Patrick Odoyo Jabuya (the suspect) was immediately arrested and the cargo estimated at a street value of Sh9.8 million seized and escorted to Voi Police Station.

The suspect is currently being processed for arraignment, facing charges related to drug trafficking.

As the investigation continues, further details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the network behind this significant drug trafficking attempt.

Legal proceedings have been set in motion, which entail the detention of the vehicle identified by registration number KCP 263K, believed to be a proceed of the illicit trade.
