Former Technical University of Mombasa vice chancellor Awadh Binhazim was arrested by EACC detectives at JKIA Thursday while on his way to the United States.
The don was nabbed on grounds that he had attempted to sneak out of the country yet a warrant of arrest issued against him remains active.
Awadh is among the several individuals being hunted by EACC over the purchase of five smart TV sets at an inflated cost of Sh4,750,000. He was arrested at 1230hours and booked at a cell in JKIA.
Investigations by the Star revealed that Awadh now works at Umma university in Nairobi.
The others who are being sought by detectives includes Feiruz Juma – who now works at Kenya Power; Joseph Obwogi – JKUAT Mombasa branch; and former procurement head Ernest Makhulo – currently an official of the Kakamega county government.

Mombasa EACC boss Simon Cherpka confirmed the arrest and added that immigration officials helped police get hold of the varsity don.
“The state has a long arm .You can run but you can’t hide. We are looking for more,” he said.
