The Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority (KHPOA) launched its inaugural Strategic Plan spanning the years 2023/2024 to 2027/2028, aiming to uphold stringent standards in healthcare delivery and professional conduct nationwide.
Mary Muthoni, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, revealed the extensive strategy that was created in collaboration with key stakeholders.
It targets five critical areas: Health Professionals Regulations, Enhancing Citizens’ Right to Life, Improving Health Service Delivery, Research and Innovation, and Institutions Capacity Development.
Geared towards fostering a more responsive, inclusive, and patient-centric healthcare system, the plan promises to reshape Kenya’s healthcare landscape.
The PS for Public Health Hon. Mary Muthoni, highlighted the importance of a united effort from various stakeholders, such as healthcare providers, policymakers, and advocacy groups, in achieving the strategic vision of KHPOA.
“Achieving accessible, high-quality healthcare for all hinges on the dedication of every stakeholder,” the PS emphasized.
The introduction of this strategic plan marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s healthcare sector, aiming to improve healthcare standards and provide equal access to high-quality services.
This initiative is set to bring about revolutionary progress and better overall health for every citizen.
“We are in the stage of implementing the Social Health Authority. One significant addition, not previously present in the NHIF, is the inclusion of pharmacy services. Community pharmacists will now be integrated into primary care networks, registered as service providers,” Nakhumicha S. Wafula, CS Health noted.
