The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) organized the second edition of the Kenya Space Expo and Conference at the Edge Convention Centre, Nairobi

The three-day event, themed “Space Technologies for Societal Benefits,” highlights the critical role of space capabilities in national security, scientific research, innovation, and economic growth.

The expo attracted local and international space experts, government officials, industry leaders, and diplomats, providing a platform for young scientists and engineers to present their research, emphasizing the importance of nurturing future space professionals.

The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry are keen on leveraging the limitless potential presented by space technologies to enhance service delivery in areas such as early warning systems to mitigate the worsening negative impacts of climate change such as cyclic droughts and floods.

“The emerging space economy presents razor-sharp precision and real-time information processing capabilities needed for evidence-based and quick decision making needed to accelerate the socio-economic transformation of our country,” Hon. Soipan Tuya, CS Environment said on X.

“As a Ministry, we’re progressively embracing space technologies in our operations including 2021 use of satellite imagery to assess Kenya’s landscapes resulting in the 12.13% tree cover and 8.83% forest cover outcomes that formed the basis for the 10-year National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy,” she added.
