Members of the National Assembly have resolved to hold a morning sitting session on Thursday, June 20th, 2024, to allow for extended debate on the Finance Bill 2024.
In a motion sponsored by the Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wa, lawmakers unanimously adopted the procedural motion seeking to hold a Morning Sitting on Thursday, 20th June 2024, commencing at 9.30 am for purposes of considering priority business.
“The House Business Committee met this afternoon and considered this motion to allow legislators ample time to debate the Finance Bill 2024,” stated Hon. Kimani Ichung’wa.
“We thought it would be wise to have sitting on Thursday Morning. We will have the entire Wednesday from 9.30am and 9.00pm and Thursday morning sitting,” he added.
This is after the Chairperson of the Finance and National Planning Committee, Hon. Kuria Kimani has tabled the Report of the Committee’s Report on the 2024, Finance Bill.
According to the majority leader Hon. Ichung’wa during the press briefing at state house, Nairobi just after the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting, the Finance Bill 2024 went through public participation and some changes had to be made.
“Public participation is central to our law-making process. You spoke, and we listened. The Finance Bill 2024 has undergone significant alterations following the invaluable submissions from the public hearing. This administration is not a deaf administration; it listens to its people’s needs. Your voices have shaped this bill, reflecting our collective aspirations and concerns,” Hon. Ichung’wa said on X.
“We have to strike a balance between raising revenue while at the same time not straining Kenyans. Delicate as it is, Kenya Kwanza remains sensitive to the people. Together, we are building a more inclusive and responsive government,” he added.
The Second reading and debate on the Finance Bill 2024 is scheduled for Wednesday, June 19th 2024 during the morning and afternoon sessions as well as the Thursday, June 20th 2024.
