Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has vowed to support the families of the victims who lost their lives during recent anti-Finance Bill protests.
Speaking candidly, Murkomen expressed his sorrow and commitment to providing both financial and emotional assistance to the bereaved families as the government looks forward to helping the families.
“These situations are extremely regrettable. I will be happy to be part of a process of supporting those affected and stand with them,” he said.
The demonstrations, which saw thousands of citizens taking to the streets, were marked by violent clashes with a heavy police presence, leading to multiple casualties and fatalities. In response to this tragedy, Murkomen detailed his plans for immediate, discreet financial assistance to the families.
“I will do it the biblical way. It will be in a manner that the left hand will not know what the right hand did,” Murkomen stated.
Murkomen emphasized the importance of providing solace to the grieving families offering his deepest condolences to the affected families, hoping his support would give some relief during their time of grief.
“For the families of those who lost their lives, the hope is that this support will provide some measure of relief as they navigate their grief and loss.”
The government’s handling of the protests has drawn significant criticism from human rights groups and the international community, with many demanding an independent investigation into the police actions during the demonstrations. Addressing these concerns, Murkomen assured the public of a thorough and transparent inquiry.
“You can hold me accountable for that,” he remarked.
In a call for national unity, the CS urged for a dialogue to address the root causes of the protests.
“We must come together as a nation to address these grievances and work towards a more just and equitable society,” he said.
Murkomen’s commitment to supporting the affected families and his call for a comprehensive inquiry and national dialogue highlights a critical step towards reconciliation and justice in the wake of these tragic events.
