Football Kenya federation heavyweight Gor Mahia will kick off their 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup tournament campaign on July 10th 2024 in Dar es Salaam Tanzania.
Gor Mahia will be competing alongside 11 other teams for the Ksh 7.6 million at stake coming in fresh from winning their 21st premier league title.
K’ogalo will start their title hunt at 9 pm on Wednesday against Red Arrows FC of Zambia in Group B before facing off Djibouti’s Ali Sabieh and winding up their group stage with a clash against Al Hilal of Sudan.
The competition will the top teams in each group and the best runners-up automatically qualify for the semi-finals.
Sudan’s Al Hilal, Kenya’s Gor Mahia, Rwanda’s APR, SC Villa from Uganda and Tanzania’s Coastal Union are the favourites to lift the trophy.
The reigning champions express FC of the cup are shockingly not part of the competitions to defend their title. Other big names missing from the competition this year include; Simba, Young Africans, Al Merriekh and Azam fc. Kenya’s Afc leopards and Tanzania’s Simba Sc have won the title the most times with 6 titles each.
