NCIC Summons MP Farah Maalim Over Alleged Inciteful Remarks

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Daadab MP Farah Maalim over allegations of making inciteful remarks regarding the Gen Z demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024.

In a video making rounds on social media platforms, the MP is heard making utterances in the Somali language, saying he would slaughter 5,000 Gen Z protesters if he were the president.

“Pursuant to Section 27 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act No. 12 of 2008, the Commission is investigating utterances made by the MP in Somali language, on the Gen Z demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024,” said NCIC.

According to NCIC the utterance made by the lawmaker is likely to incite negative feelings and affect harmonious coexistence, which goes against Section 13 (1) (a) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act.

The former speaker of the National Assembly is expected to appear before the commission on Thursday at 11 am at NCIC offices to aid in the ongoing investigations over the matter.

“Hon. Farah Maalim is required to appear before the Commission to assist with the aforementioned ongoing investigations. Failure to appear in person at the said place, date, and time, is an offense as provided under Section 63 (c) as read with Section 63 (e) of the NCI Act,” ordered NCIC.

The MP on Tuesday came out to debunk and distanced himself from the undated viral video stating the clips were edited out and the comments on the video were not his original statements.

“It is all editing, cutting and pasting and taking a word from here and there and putting it together. It is Somalis basically who would do that for other reasons because it weighed in on the politics of Somalia,” he stated.
