The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has on Thursday 11th July 2024 joined partners in commemorating the African Anti-Corruption Day, themed “Effective Whistle-blower Protection Mechanism.”

Mr. Joseph Riungu, OGW, Acting Head of Economic Crimes, representing the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga at the event, emphasized the ODPP’s dedication to enhancing its whistle-blower protection mechanisms.

Additionally, Mr. Riungu reiterated the ODPP’s determination to combat corruption in all its manifestations, highlighting the importance of effective whistle-blower protection mechanisms in the fight against corruption.

Mr. Riungu stressed the importance of safeguarding individuals who bravely expose corruption, as this can help reveal and tackle corrupt activities, ultimately fostering a society that is more transparent, accountable, and prosperous.

Furthermore, he confirmed that the ODPP is collaborating with other government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to create a supportive environment for whistle-blowers.

“The goal is to establish a robust system that not only protects whistle-blowers but also promotes a culture of integrity and accountability,” Mr. Riungu said.

The Ethics and Anti-corruption (EACC) Chairperson Dr. David Oginde and EACC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Twalib Mbarak, alongside representatives from the private sector and civil societies, were represented in the event.
