4 Suspects Arrested For Stealing KSH850,000 In Lang’ata

Detectives from the Nairobi regional headquarters have successfully apprehended a gang of four individuals who had stolen Ksh 850,000 from a locked vehicle in Lang’ata.

Following intensive investigations by detectives from the elite CRIB and Operations units, four suspects, Shaban Maingi Rashid, Steve Malvin Njagi, Johnson Muisyo Mbingu, and Mashud Onyango Dax alias Sudi have been arrested.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest was a result of thorough investigations following a report made at the Langata police station by a resident of South C- Green estate 2, who had lost a portion of the money he had withdrawn from a local bank on July 17, 2024.

The victim had left the money in his locked vehicle while he went shopping at Uchumi supermarket in Langata.

Upon his return, he discovered that his vehicle had been broken into and the money he had kept in a Khaki envelope was missing.

After reviewing CCTV footage from a nearby business premise, it was confirmed that the gang of four individuals, travelling in a white Suzuki Swift with registration number KDB 771T, had broken into the victim’s car and made off with his money.

“On reviewing CCTV footage from an adjacent business premise, it was established that the four-man gang onboard a white Suzuki Swift Reg. No. KDB 771T had been captured breaking into his car and taking off with his money,” revealed the DCI.

During the arrest, the suspects were found in a Suzuki Swift with registration number KDH 154B.

Additionally, a master key and another set of number plates (KDP 989N) were recovered from inside the vehicle, matching the insurance details of the car.

“At the time of arrest, the four were onboard a Suzuki Swift Reg. No. KDH 154B but upon further search, the detectives recovered a master key and retrieved another set of number plates KDP 989N from inside the vehicle that also matched the vehicle’s insurance details,” stated the DCI.

It was also discovered that one of the arrested individuals, Shaban Maingi Rashid, has a history of similar offenses in the Langata area and is currently facing charges in court.

“The detectives have further established that one of the arrested thugs Shaban Maingi Rashid has previously been arrested for similar offences within the Langata area and has ongoing cases before the court,” added the DCI.
