President William Ruto has taken a significant step towards strengthening his administration by nominating two individuals for key positions within the government.
The President has transmitted to the National Assembly the names of the nominees for appointment as the Attorney General and the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community (EAC) and Regional Development.
In a press release dated 30th July 2024, President Ruto announced the nomination of Ms Dorcas Agik Oduor for the position of Attorney General.
Ms. Oduor is a distinguished lawyer with over two decades of experience in legal practice and public service, is set to bring her extensive expertise to the role.
“It is notified that the Head of State and Government has nominated MS. Dorcas Agik Oduor, SC,EBS,OGW, for appointment to the position of the Attorney-General of the Republic of Kenya. Senior Counsel Dorcas Oduor has vast legal experience spanning over thirty years of practice within the public sector,” read the statement.
The A.G Nominee was admitted to the bar as an advocate of the high court of Kenya in 1992 having attained her Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1990 and a postgraduate Diploma from a Kenya School of Law in 1991.
Ms. Oduor is currently serving as a Secretary of Public Prosecutions within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions(ODPP).
However if approved by the National Assembly Ms. Dorcas Agik Oduor will be the first Kenya’s female Attorney General.
For the role of Cabinet Secretary for EAC and Regional Development, President Ruto has nominated Ms . Beatrice Askul Moe.
“Ms. Beatrice Askul Moe, for appointment as the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs (EAC) & Regional Development,” the statement read in part.
According to the dispatch, Ms. Moe is a Social Scientist and a Consultant who has previously served as as a Director of the Rift Valley Water Service Board, Chairperson Audit Committee to the Rift Valley Water Service Board, Project Officer AMREF Kenya Turkana Project and Relief Officer for the Oxfam Turkana Relief Program.
The CS Nominee holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree Social Sciences from Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) and is pursuing a Masters Degree in Governance and Ethics.
In a statement, President Ruto expressed confidence in the capabilities of both nominees, emphasizing their dedication to public service and their potential to contribute significantly to the nation’s development agenda.
The nominations come at a crucial time as President Ruto’s administration continues to focus on enhancing governance, promoting regional integration, and driving economic growth.
The National Assembly is expected to schedule the vetting process for the nominees in the coming days, after which their appointments will be confirmed or rejected based on the legislative body’s decision.
