In a significant breakthrough, undercover detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have apprehended a drug trafficker posing as a regular passenger and seized 1,080 grams of cocaine.
The suspect, identified as Bioma Alice Gbassay from Sierra Leone, attempted to pass through security checks unnoticed but was intercepted by the alert team of detectives.
“Undercover detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport have intercepted a drug trafficker disguising herself as a normal passenger and recovered 1080 grams of cocaine,” DCI stated.
According to the detectives the suspect, Bioma Alice Gbassay from Sierra Leone, believed she could evade security checks, but our alert team of detectives apprehended her in the act.
“Upon her arrival in Kenya en route to Mumbai, Bioma was escorted to the immigration offices where her luggage was picked up from the baggage hall and was taken to the Anti-narcotics office,” the detectives explained.
A thorough search of her body and belongings revealed narcotic drugs concealed in various locations. Detectives discovered a whitish substance wrapped in clear tape hidden in her inner garments.
“From her inner garments, a whitish substance wrapped with clear tape was recovered. Further, two slabs of dove soap concealing a suspicious powdery substance were also recovered in her luggage,” DCI reported.
Additionally, two slabs of dove soap containing a suspicious powdery substance were found in her luggage. Laboratory tests confirmed the substances to be cocaine.
In a related incident, law enforcement officers responded to a distress call from the manager of Promise Bus Services, operating on the Malaba-Nairobi route.
The manager reported a passenger exhibiting suspicious behavior aboard a bus with registration number KBY 156K.
Upon arrival, officers searched for a parcel belonging to Emmanuel Erony, who was traveling to Nairobi. Inside the parcel, they found 19 large stones of suspected narcotics wrapped in yellow cello tape.
Further investigation revealed that these stones contained cannabis sativa, weighing 19,810 grams and valued at approximately Kshs 990,500.
Both suspects have been processed for arraignment and will face charges related to drug trafficking.
