After five years of construction, Asia’s longest and highest bridge Longjiang Grand Bridge has finished closure in advance and passed load test on April 5.
On April 20, 2016, people were in all smiles as they walked on the newly-opened Longjiang grand bridge in southwest China’s, Yunnan Province. The Longjiang grand bridge on Baoshan-Tengchong highway has a length of over 2,470 meters and a scary height of 280 meters
The 2470 meters (8,100-feet-long) suspension bridge constructed over Longjiang River, south western China’s Yunnan province, was opened in SW China on 20th April 2016, but will officially open to traffic on May 1, 2016.
The new bridge, connecting the cities of Baoshan and Tengchong, and going straight to Myanmar, hovers at a nail biting 280 meters (920) feet above the valley below. It is the tallest and longest of its kind to be built across two mountains in Asia.
The central span of the bridge, which is the distance between the two main towers, will measure 3,924 feet and is only slightly shorter than that of the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The bridge has the longest span among all the steel box girder suspension bridges in mountainous areas in Asia.
