The embattled Meru County Governor Hon. Kawira Mwangaza has been impeached by the county assembly for the third time, with 49 MCAs voting for her removal from office.
The County Assembly of Meru did the voting on Thursday 8th August, 2024 whereby 49 MCA’s voted for her Impeachment, while 17 members voted against the Impeachment and 3 members decided to take a back seat and avoid voting.
The motion was brought by the Deputy Majority leader Hon. Zipporah who accused the Governor of Gross misconduct, violation of the Constitution and abuse of office.
Hon. Kawira Mwangaza has faced five attempts of Impeachment since she took over the leadership of Meru County.
On Thursday morning, Kenya Police Service deployed more security officers around the County Assembly of Meru to tighten the security as the Honorable members were expected to debate on the Impeachment motion of the Governor.
Meru Governor is now out of office to await the decision of the Senate to reinstate her or approve her removal from office.
She will be expected to defend herself in the Senate and explain the allegations from the MCA’s and when found guilty, she will have no option but to vacate the office of the Governor.
Her fate lies with the Senators whether to survive or get out of office.
