National Assembly, Senate Committee To Vet Nominee Douglas Kanja For Inspector General Position

The National Assembly Committee on Administration and Internal Security, alongside the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations, will hold a joint vetting session for Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho, the nominee for the position of Inspector General of the National Police Service.

The vetting process, scheduled for Thursday, August 15, 2024, will be co-chaired by Hon. Gabriel Tongoyo, MP (Narok West), and Sen. William Cheptumo (Baringo County).

“The National Assembly Committee on Administration and Internal Security and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations will on Thursday, August 15, 2024 vet Mr Douglas Kanja Kirocho, nominee for the position of Inspector General,” stated the National Assembly.

“The session will be co-chaired by Hon. Gabriel Tongoyo, MP (Narok West) and Sen. William Cheptumo (Baringo County),” the National Assembly added.

Mr. Kirocho, who has an extensive background in law enforcement and national security, has been nominated for the crucial role of Inspector General, a position that oversees the entire National Police Service, ensuring law and order across the country.

His nomination by President William Ruto  for the Inspector General position followed the resignation of Japhet Koome on July 12, 2024.

The vetting session will provide a platform for the committees to assess Mr. Kirocho’s qualifications, experience, and vision for the National Police Service.
