Following the adverse effects of climate change including floods witnessed in the country during March, April, May rainy season, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Aden Duale has committed to implement the green constitution of 2010.
The new environment CS reiterated that he will follow the footsteps of Kenya’s most revered environmental champions.
“I am going to implement the green constituion of 2010. I am going to implement what our forefathers like Wangari Mathai did for our country,” stated Hon. Duale.
Drawing inspiration from the late John Michuki, CS Duale has vowed to rejuvenate the Nairobi River, a critical lifeline for the city that has suffered from years of pollution.Duale also noted that he will support Nairobi River Commission in its clean up effort of Nairobi river.
“I will take the route of late John Michuki, I will clean Nairobi River Commission, I will take the route of Wangari Mathai to safe Karura forest today that we enjoy, noted the CS.
“Those polluting the rivers you better think twice, there is a new sherif in town,” added the CS.
The new leadership pledges to follow Maathai’s path by safeguarding this urban green space, ensuring it remains a sanctuary for biodiversity and a haven for Nairobi’s residents.
“Nairobi is environmental capital of the world and there is need to preserve and protect it for now and future generation,” he added.
Duale who was attending the opening of the Africa Green Climate Finance National Designated Authorities Network (AFDAN) forum in Nairobi,stressed the importance of robust financial frameworks for Africa’s climate resilience and sustainable development, reaffirming Kenya’s leadership in regional climate finance efforts.
The two day meeting will offer a critical platform for discussing innovative solutions, sharing best practices, and forming partnerships to support Africa’s green transition.
