Kenyan actress Winnie Bwire Ndubi, popularly known as Dida from the Citizen television show ‘Sultana,’ has sadly passed away while undergoing cancer treatment in Turkey.

According to a statement released by her family, Bwire succumbed to her illness on Thursday, September 5, 2024, while receiving treatment for breast cancer.

“It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle to cancer on 5th September 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey,” read the statement.

In September 2023, she took to social media to request financial assistance amounting to 7 million Ksh to facilitate her travel abroad for medical care.

“I come to you, seeking support to help me get further medical attention overseas that’s required to save my life. I’m coming to the only village I know, please take a moment to stand with me on this journey of recovery by donating anything you can to help me reach the required goal of Ksh 7 million . Your support will be highly valued. God Bless you,” Bwire implored.

A month before her passing, she again reached out on social media for additional assistance to travel to Turkey, as the medication she had been prescribed caused severe side effects, prompting her doctors to recommend a halt in that treatment and seek further medical intervention.

“There is only one place I know, so am coming back to you asking for support the first phase went well but the second had a lot of complications, if you can support me I have nothing to give you in return but you will save my life,”  Bwire stated.

She clarified that although she had obtained visas for her trip to Turkey, she still required financial aid for her treatment and accommodation there.

Bwire Ndubi had been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer three years ago and had been undergoing treatment.

In her latest video, she reported significant improvements, including regrowth of her hair and a restoration of her appetite.
